My son loves to help me cook and bake in the kitchen. So tonight, I provided him with a sensory activity to create pretend cupcakes using shaving foam. This encourages him to use his imagination as well as creativity.
Recommended for children age 18 months and over. If your child still put things in their mouth, you can substitute shaving foam with whipped cream.
To make it feel authentic, I use a real muffin tray and piping bag. Squirt some shaving cream into the piping bag and let them use their fine motor skills to squirt the foam into the tray. Encourage them to be creative in decorating. You can use just about anything, in this occasion I offered him some food colouring and sequins. He said, “put some sprinkles on top and get ready to put in the oven”.
It is such a simple activity, but the child benefits in many different areas such as language skills, creativity and imagination.
